Does Medical Abortion Have An Effect On Future Fertility Of A Woman?

Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: I am a 31 year old female. I have a six year old son from a previous relationship. This relationship was extremely abusive and the father is in prison for seriously assaulting me. I have met someone new and I am in a loving, respectful place with him. In march 2015, I underwent a medical abortion at 7 weeks following condom bursting and failed emergency contraceptive pill. I am utterly ashamed of this and acted out of fear due to my past and will never forgive myself. Struggling mentally with severe guilt and regret which is with me every minute of every day.
I am wondering if this termination could have impaired my fertility and feel I'm being punished in some way.
Having realised my catastrophic mistake, my partner and I are building a life together and want a family. Nothing is happening so far. We have sex ever day I am not on my period. Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer:
use ovulation kits to time fertile period

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
Well, it is natural that a couple may have unwanted pregnancy and tend to get it aborted but as in your case it was a medical abortion it really doesn't have any effect on your future fertility at all but yes the guilt and the stress associated with it which you are trying to deal with can actually cause hormonal imbalances and can actually cause irregular bleedings and even a change in cycle.
So keep the guilt away , its perfectly normal.
Secondly try using ovulation kits to mark your ovulation days and hence once positive then within next 36 hrs, you should ovulate and that is when you should have sex when the chances of getting pregnant are higher.
