Does Nicotine Prolong The Excretion Of Cannabis In Urine?

Posted on Fri, 23 Nov 2012
Question: Hello ... my friend recently got in trouble with the law for drugs (hashish) .. they gave him a urine test and it was positive. We live in a really strict country that has zero tolerance for these things (Kuwait). Luckily, he was given a second chance and he will not go to jail. The police told him that he will be watched for the next 6 months, and that at anytime he can be called in for a urine test to make sure that he is clean. He will not smoke hashish anymore but my question is: he smokes cigarettes, so will the nicotine affect his urine test results? His mother is telling him that if he keeps on smoking cigarettes, it will make the hashish leave his urine slower. So instead of the results being 100% clean, it will make it 80% clean. So I want to know, is his mother telling him this because she wants him to quit smoking cigarettes? or is it true? my friend will never touch hashish again in his life, but he wants to keep on smoking cigarettes. Therefore, what are the effects of nicotine on an urine test testing for hashish? Also, how long does it take for hashish to completely leave his body?

Hi,

Welcome to XXXXXXX and thanks for your query.
It is relevant question, but no link has been found between the two.
Links have been found with alcohol and other medically used drugs, but not with nicotine. So, the answer is that nicotine does not prolong the excretion of cannabis in urine.
Having said that, NICOTINE addiction is the worst form and it has significant health effects.
So it is wise to stop smoking cigarettes as well, as it can lead to cancers in multiple organs and heart attack at an early age.
Cannabis can be detected in urine upto 90 days and in the HAIR upto three years.

So that is the information and things need to be planned accordingly.

Thank you for your answer. I have a follow up question:

We heard that cannabis and nicotine are stored in the fat cells. Please explain the process of withdrawal regarding the two in more details.

Also, what is the half life of cannabis? And what foods/drinks can he drink or eat in order to speed up the process faster to clean his body?

Hi,

Welcome back. You may find the following information helpful---

The elimination half-life of nicotine in the body is around two hours. It can take nicotine 48 to 72 hours or more to leave the body after quitting smoking.

Some metabolites ( products of cannabis) have an elimination half-life of 20 hours. However, some are stored in body fat and have a elimination half-life of 10 to 13 days. Urine tests for marijuana can detect the presence of the drug in the body for up to 13 days.
However, there is evidence that the length of time that marijuana remains in the body is affected by duration, frequency and the amount smoked. Regular smokers have reported positive drug test results even after 45 days since last use and heavy smokers have reported positive tests 90 days after quitting.

Washing Out - This entails drinking a lot of water and urinating several times before the test, then taking vitamin B-2 to add color back to the urine. Although this may lower the percentage of THC found in the urine by diluting it, it will not totally eliminate the metabolites.

Hope this helps.
