Does Pneumonia Will Correct After Covid But Will The Emphysema Mildness Go Away Or Could The Athpical Pneumonia Cause It?
Question: Hello Dr,
I tested positive for Covid yesterday and had a chest XRay result below.
FINDINGS:
Cardiomediastinal silhouette is normal. Mild emphysematous changes are
noted. There is a hazy interstitial opacity in the right perihilar and
lower lobe distribution. No pleural effusion or pneumothorax.
IMPRESSION:
Mild emphysematous changes.
Findings suspicious for evolving atypical pneumonia.
I smoked but stopped over 30 years ago and I am reasonably active. I believe the pneumonia will correct after Covid but will the emphysema mildness go away or could the athpical pneumonia cause it? Never mentioned previously in over 6-8 Chest XRays. Thank you.

And emphysema, we can not confirm on chest x ray.
So get done Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) and CT chest for the diagnosis of emphysema.
And if it is emphysema then it is mostly due to smoking habit.
So quit smoking as early as possible.
