Flexeril may cause liver injury in rare circumstances.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Debbiechico,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
Seizure will not cause increased liver enzymes unless, seizure itself is caused by a liver related disorder. Some of the anti-seizure medicines may however, cause liver injury and increased liver enzymes.
Flexeril may cause liver injury rarely(about 0.5-1%).
If your AST and ALT were increased previously also, then they are unlikely to be raised due to these factors. If you did not get them done previously and it is the first time you have got them, then you never know-its quite probable that they are elevated from some time back.
Other common causes of increased liver enzymes are-
1)Alcoholism
2)Viral hepatitis
You should get screened for viral markers.
If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
MD,DM(Neurology)
