Does Sudden Injury To The Face Cause Facial Changes?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Aug 2017
Question: Can moving or throwing/thrusting your head or face quickly backward change position (backward, inward or any direction or combination of directions) of facial bones or cause any physical changes of your face? Thanks.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh (24 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
This will not change the facial appearance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Moving your head/face forward or backward forcefully (or in any direction) would not have an effect on your facial bones or cause any changes to the shape of your face.

However, very forceful abrupt forward-backward movement can cause "whip lash", such as when a car that is moving quickly stops abruptly. But this is an injury to the internal musculoskeletal parts of the neck, not the face/head. So there would be no change in facial appearance from it, only inflammation in the neck.

Hi so there will be no change in position/shape/depth of facial bones or face (any part of or entire face) or facial features from moving head backward forcefully or in any direction? Thanks again.

Position( as moving backward, inward, diagonal or any direction or combination of directions)
doctor
Answered by Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh (10 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
There would be no change in the face from this type of movement.

Detailed Answer:
No, the muscles, tendons, and their attachments to the skeleton, hold everything in place. So with moving the head forcefully in any direction (forward, backward, sideways, diagonally, or in any combination) there would be no change at all in the position of facial bones or any part of the face. That includes the facial features and the entire face as a whole.

The shape/appearance of facial features, facial bones, entire face or any part of face does not change as well from moving forcefully face/head backward or any direction? Thanks.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh (8 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It won't cause a change in the face.

Detailed Answer:
Nope, I can definitely say that the shape or appearance of the facial features, facial bones, any part of the face, nor the entire face as a whole, does not change from forceful movement of the face/head in any direction. Not at all.

You also can't move the position of eyebrows or bones under eyebrows by pressing on the eyebrow area with hands? You also can't flatten/elevate the bones under the eyebrows?

Or change shape of bones under eyebrows from pressing up or any direction on eyebrows?

Questions refer to Pressing or pushing with hands in any direction on eyebrow bone area. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
No, you can't move the eyebrows or the bones of the skull under the eyebrows with your hands. These can't be flattened or elevated by manipulation with your hands.

So the shape of the eyebrows would not change from pressing or pushing on the eyebrows.

The shape of the eyebrow bones can't change either from pressing or pushing on eyebrow area?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh (17 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Eyebrows and bones underneath are not easily changed.

Detailed Answer:
The shape of the bones under the eyebrows cannot change from pressing or pushing on the eyebrow area.

I'm including a link to pictures of the facial part of the skull here so that you can see that where the eyebrows are is part of a solid part of the skull. This won't break easily, and the eyebrows won't change shape.

It won't show up as blue, i.e. you can't just click on it to see it, unfortunately. You'll need to copy and paste it into your address bar.

Someone with hands around side of forehead and around side of jaw on opposite side to forehead pressed/pushed or twisted in opposite directions.

This couldn't have caused my facial bones or part of my forehead to move backward (inward towards back of head) & upwards or to side or any direction (diagonal, etc) or combination of directions or move the position of the jaw? ( forward, back, to side, diagonal, or any direction or combo of directions)

This couldn't have caused any changes in shape/position/depth (forward, back, in, to side, diagonal, or any direction or combo of directions) of facial bones, any part of face or entire face or facial features?

Whether it's twisting or pushing/pressing or both the facial changes mentioned above couldn't have taken place, right?

Thanks!

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

No, your face or facial bones or features will not change from someone "with hands around side of forehead and around side of jaw on opposite side to forehead pressed/pushed or twisted in opposite directions." The exception would be if extreme force were used and there were bone fractures or muscle/tendon tears, but this will not happen from the force you described, and you would see swelling and bruising.

"Whether it's twisting or pushing/pressing or both the facial changes mentioned above couldn't have taken place, right?" - Yes, that is correct

So from the force I described there would not be (any) change in shape/depth/position (change in position from any movement forward, back, to side, diagonal or any direction or combo of directions) of facial bones, any part of face/entire face or facial features?
I'm worried there could be even a slight change that distorts everything.

Detailed Answer:
From the force you described, which did not result in signs of trauma (swelling, bruising, pain), there would not have been any lasting change in facial features. None. Not even a little.

There would also be no lasting change none, not even a little (shape, position, depth, etc) in any part or entire face or facial bones from force described above without signs of trauma?

Doing twisting motions around head/face with my hands but not touching face/head also would not cause any physical changes mentioned above?

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
There would be no lasting change in position, shape, or depth to any part of the face, including the facial bones or features from the kind of force you described which resulted in no signs of trauma.

And no, twisting one's own face with one's hands also would not cause physical changes.

Doing twisting/pressing/pushing motions as described above (that someone did to my face) with my own hands around my face (forehead & jaw area) without actually touching my face, just demonstrating around my face in the air also could not cause any physical changes to my face(facial bones, features, any part of face) such as those mentioned above? I think that incident caused me to become really paranoid about even demonstrating the motion around my face without touching my face with my hands.

Brief Answer:
Thoughts on this

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

No, none of these movements, done with one's own hands, either on your face or in the air, would cause any physical changes to your bones or features.

It sounds as though the incident was traumatizing. Would you consider going to a counselor to talk through this so that you can feel better emotionally?

So none of these movements with my own hands on my face or in the air (around near my face) could cause any physical changes to my face, facial bones, features?

Yes I'm am currently seeing a therapist about this, thanks.

Any physical changes to face as mentioned above?
With my hands around near almost on my face (forehead & jaw area) in the air without touching my face, forgot to add

Also, someone pressing/pushing/twisting on my face as described above could not have changed the alignment of any part of my face (forehead for example changing alignment with rest of face) with any other part of my face or alignment of facial bones or facial features. Also, this could not have caused the symmetry or evenness of my face/facial features/facial bones to change? Thanks.
Facial features such as eyes, nose, lips, etc couldn't have changed position (moved up, back, inward, etc)?

Answered by Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
No, none of the movements you described, on your face or near your face in the air around your face could cause these changes.

And no, without causing typical signs of trauma such as pain, swelling, or bruising, someone doing the things you described would not cause any permanent changes or asymmetry or unevenness of the face, facial features or bones.

It's also not possible for the brain, eyesight, and my voice to change or get damaged by someone pressing/pushing/twisting on my face as described above or in any manner? Thanks.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
If a person strangles you, it may be possible for the voice to change. If a person presses extremely hard on your eyeballs with direct intentional pressure, it may be possible to damage your eyes. But not from twisting your face as described. And no damage would happen to your brain.

So from someone pushing/pressing/twisting on my face as described above (with hands around side of forehead and around side of jaw ...)couldn't have caused part of my face or forehead to move back (inward) towards back of head & upward or any direction or combination of directions or caused any change in position of any part of my face or facial bone? Or slanted any part of face or facial bone?

Also, pressing/pushing or twisting in any direction on my chin with my hands cannot change the position/shape of chin (chin bone)or lower half of face or any part of my face or any facial bone?

Thanks again.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Bonnie Berger-Durnbaugh (2 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
No, the twisting you described would not have changed the position of your forehead or chin because those are part of the skull and would require great force to move. They are firmly fixed. It would require a fracture of the bones and you would know that that happened.

If moving the bones of the face and facial features could just be done with the hands manipulating them, plastic surgeons would be out of business!
