default
Posted on Thu, 15 May 2014
Question: In the morning, my daughter ate saussage, but accidently she chewed wood sticked and tip of wood stick was broked and swallowed.
The size is below 1cm... there is no symptom now..
Not too sharp comparing to the tip of pin.
guessing the the sharpness of wood stick is almost the same with that of tip of pen or pensil.

that could also cause the penetrate the GI system?
or
stomach acid could make wood particle softer enough not to irrate the GI system..

Brief Answer:
Follows.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that it will be difficult to predict the course that she will follow because it depends upon the the piece ingested . If the tip is very sharp it can injure the soft mucosa and may cause a bleed but if the size is big and blunt edge probably it will not lead to such injury . Perforation of bowel does not seem a likely possibilty because wood stick is soft in consistency .

Still I would like to advise you to consult a doctor for this so that he can examine her and look for any signs of bleeding or irriattion of mucosa plus if they think there is a need for giving some stool softeners to facilitate the passage of wood particle .

Take care.
