Question: Does synthetic Testosterone down regulate the Gabba receptors the same way a Benzodiazpine would? And is it like an antagonist on the gabba receptors?

Brief Answer:
It is speculated as an agonist on GABA receptors.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

First of all, I like to acknowledge that there is no conclusive evidence on current data about the action of synthetic testosterone on GABA receptors in the brain. There are some animal studies which indicate that the testosterone acts on GABA receptors in animals but no such human studies available on the current date. However, the available research shows the anxiolytic effect of testosterone which can be taken as a proxy for agonist action.

Keeping aside the research I like to acknowledge that I am a practising sexologist and psychiatrist and have experience of prescribing synthetic testosterone and benzodiazepines in different patients. I do not think testosterone causes down regulation of GABA receptors as no patient ever developed anxiety symptoms on discontinuation of testosterone despite months/years of use.

I hope this helps you.

Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.

And as I am aware once being Benzodiazpine sensitive I can not have any of the fluoroquinolones or Quinolone antibiotics or be put under anthesisa as they all have some negative impact on the Central nervous system. Are the older antibiotics like Kefflex be a more suitable antibiotics as I will need one for my tooth infection.

Follow up...

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I do not think that being benzodiazepine sensitive prevents the use of any antibiotic. The antibiotics are used for a short period and unlikely to affect your brain permanently.

I also like to inform you that before selection of antibiotic we need for culture and sensitivity of specimen and once the report is obtained a suitable antibiotic can be used which includes Keffelex.

I hope this answers you further.
