Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: Hi , my last period was on 4th November 2014, I took an I pill (emergency contraceptive) on 8th November 2014 (5th /last day of my period). I have still not got my periods. I took a test on 1st dec , 5th dec and 10th dec , all my tests came negative .Also I had protected sex on 9th dec 2014 , and I took an I pill in the morning (10th dec , 8:30 am ). also i want to know taking two Contraceptive pill, does it affect my cycle (if yes , how much minimum delay is expected ).Is there any chance of pregnancy , why is my period delayed, i was suppose to get it on 1st december .when can I expect my period . I have heard norethisterone tablet like( prevent – n) helps to induce period . can I take it to force period . If yes, please guide me the dose and for how many days can I take it .

Brief Answer:
Delayed period due to pills

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and what I understood is that you are concerned whether you are pregnant or not, cause of delayed period, does i pill effect menstrual cycle and how to induce periods.

Following is my reply:

1. You are unlikely to be pregnant due to protected sexual intercourse on 8th November or 9th December as you have taken adequate precautions. Hence don’t worry about pregnancy.

2. Taking 2 contraceptives will definitely delay your cycle. The delay might even be up to one month.

3. You don’t need to take norethisterone tablets to fore periods as you have taken enough hormonal medicines already and this is not needed.

4) I suggest you wait for period to come by itself.

I hope your doubt is clarified. Let me know if you wish any other information.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya

Thank you for your reply . But if the delay will be for a month that means i won't get my periods this month (Decemeber) . don't you think it will be a long time till then because last time I had my periods on 4th november so that means there will be a gap of almost 2 months by the time my period arrive . I would rather consider force period . what if I wait for a week and still if I don't get my periods then I can opt for medicines. Also I would like to inform you I have PCOS.Please let me know if there is any way I can induce period.

Brief Answer:
Forcing periods is not recommended for you now

Detailed Answer:
Hi

The time limit I gave as one month is a maximum time limit. Periods might get delayed up to one month starting anytime now.

Forced period is not recommended as you have excess hormones in body already due to pills and taking anymore pills will complicate and likely delay periods further.

Since you also have PCOS, I recommend wait as I mentioned above. If no periods by maximum one month, you can consider forcing it.
