I asked for my Thyroid to be checked and all worked out. Thought it could be my Thalassemia, but the Doc said that my type does not cause symptoms. & Thyroid is good. Oh & checked Vit. D for good measure said it was L (24), its been lower...Should I just ignore and continue with the fresh fruits & vegeies, whole grains, more chicken & fish less meat, I have also TRIED to pick up my walking since its warmer.

Brief Answer:
Please take folate/multivitamin-minerals supplements and give feedback!

Detailed Answer:
Hi! thanks for writing to us!

You are correct, thal minor and carries state do not cause any symptom. Still, I would say that your Hb% is quite low and it is also difficult to have a good level but you must try to get near to 11 gm% by taking hematinics, folate, Vit b12 and multivitamins/minerals and report back to me after 1 month. This could be early symptoms of thyroiditis also!

Also, please check your blood pressure, cardiac profile by ECG, Echocardiography and if all are normal then think of some auto-immune disease and go for ANA/anti-TPO tests.

Wishing you good health,

I take a bi lingual Vit b12 when I am REALLY tired, and a Women's mega multivitamin daily... folate=iron supplement? I understood that I should not take iron that would build up in my liver or pancreas (?) My Uncle who had the same thing was in the hospital, with all these numbers so LOW they kept giving him iron then found out it was this and he actually passed away from too much iron! So I haven't taken ANY & the hematologist won't do anything either. My sister who has the same thing just had a blood transfusion. Ummm that's pretty drastic. I sent text her a copy of my #s also. My diet is great, I stick to the outside isles of the grocery store that's what the nutrionist said to do, Not even the hematologist wants to give a b12 shot that's why I got the liquid. & the tablet that melts. AND the Endocrinologist I went to last year said (my hormone #s were lower!) said "you just have to live with it) I HAVE BEEN THINKING AUTO - IMMUNE DISEASE for a couple years!! I actually feel like I am going crazy, the family physician just wants to keep pushing anxiety and depression meds!! I was so frustrated when I left yesterday! I AM JUST feeling exhausted! I really don't think I need the ECG (?) would I be better off trying to find a internist instead of a family physician ?? The hematologist just wants to draw blood every 6 mo. when they are realllly low every 2 wks and say "wow, don't go out in public, watch your diet, take vit D, see you in 2 wks, pay my co-pay & charge my ins. I call him the Vampire Doc. Can I ask a crazy question? Could it be a form of RA ?? swelling joints?? knees ankles wrists, stiffness, back, neck fingers, feet sometimes I can barely walk, weather effects me, movement effects me, etc...
Sorry, when you mentioned the auto immune disease I thought MAYBE IM NOT CRAZY AFTER ALL!!! Hopefully I am not tooo jumbled

Brief Answer:
You are correct!

Detailed Answer:
Hi! I agree with you;

In fact, auto-immune diseases are very common and much more commoner than we think! They are mostly silent and not detected until tested properly. You are correct and please see an internist for a detailed physical examination and some specific tests to rule out rheumatoid arthritis and iron overload...

Don't lose hope; there are treatments available for such conditions.
