Does The Use Of Soda Cause Dementia?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 May 2017
Question: Hi; I've heard recently that soda, such as coke or sprite, has been determined to have dangerous health impacts, such as causing an increase in likelihood of dementia. I saw another article which said that this only pertained to diet sodas. I buy non-caffeinated cokes for my XXXXXXX mother all the time; is there any validity in this? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Yes, there is some research that backs this up.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

There is something to this. Researchers from XXXXXXX Clinic's Wellness Institute and Harvard University have indicate that higher consumption of sugar-sweetened and low-calorie sodas is associated with a higher risk of stroke, which is the foundation of vascular dementia.

Here is the research article:

You won't be able to just click on it to see it, I don't think. So copy and paste it into your address bar.

In addition, newer research also links diet sodas to stroke and dementia.

Colas are dependency forming, so if you decrease the number of Cokes, do it gradually, otherwise there may be symptoms of withdrawal. There will be less of this with caffeine free cola compared with colas with full caffeine, but still do it gradually. If you want to decrease the number of sodas, gradually replace these with other beverages such as a variety of teas, soy rice or almond milks, and of course water.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
