Does Thyroid Nodule Cause TIA?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: Should I be concerned that while in the hospital for TIA and given an ultrasound it was noted that I have a "possible" nogle on my thyroid. I was told about 3 years ago that my blood work showed a thyroid imbalance and was sent to a specialist. I have been given synthroid since that time. The word "nogle" has never been mentioned but I have now had an ultrasound to determine what I have. That test noted that I have 3 nogles (1 large and 2 small). My specialist stated that he is not surprised at the "possible nogle" mention in the test report because that is what he has been treating me for. I am perplexed!!!

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Thyroid nodule is less likely to be a cause of TIA.However,I would like to ask the following details-
1)When did he have this TIA?What was the deficit?
2)Did he get the brain MRI done?If yes, please upload.
3)Any other risk factors for TIA-Diabetes,Hypertension,Heart disease,Smoking?

Forget the cause of the TIA! My question related to the Nodule(s) on my throid. I would never have known I had nodules if I had not had the Ultrasound when hospitalized with the TIA. My doctor (specialist) never mentioned "nodule" to me after treating me for about 3 years. When I called my doctor to tell him about the nodule, he said he was aware of it and that is what he has been treating me for the past 3 years. All I knew is that my blood work showed a thyroid imbalance and was put on medication. Is a throid imbalance the same as having a nodule??? Can a nodule be cancerous? Note: I am a 72 year old woman, not a "he"

Brief Answer:
Thyroid nodule can be cancerous.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Thanks for pointing out the mistake.I apologize.

Thyroid functions can be abnormal even without thyroid nodules. So,abnormal thyroid function tests are not synonymous with thyroid nodule.

Of course!Thyroid nodules can be cancerous as well.

'Thyroid scan and biopsy'
may help in differentiating non-cancerous from cancerous nodules.

If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to answer.
