Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: Hi I am filling out a workers comp form and trying to determine if my carpal tunnel is a result of typing at work. I did research and there is no 100 percent way to tell and my bosses said to apply for workers comp. I am an assistant to a commissioner and I sepnd half my day typing. I am headed for suregry tomorrow and they are soing the surgery as opose to the laser treatment. All advise is appreciated. My EMG test said my nerve test was a 6.3 doc said anything over 6 is irreversible and required surgery

Brief Answer:
Carpal tunnel syndrome

Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with carpal tunnel syndrome. We know that carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is caused from repetitive motion like when typing. In all probability your condition is a result of the typing.Treatment is using a splint, antiflammatories like ibuprofen, steroid injections and surgery. When all else fails then surgery is the only option and it sounds like that was attempted. In my experience when a persons EMG shows this much damage then surgery is really the only option. I agree with proceeding with the surgery.
