Brief Answer:
Asymptomatic occurrence in sexually active persons.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

In your country, this is a common occurrence and also asymptomatic in the majority. It is usually seen in those who are sexually active.

Urethritis is mostly caused and so is pelvic inflammatory disease. Burning and itching are perhaps due to some superimposed fungal vaginitis. A vaginal swab should help to conclude.

You have the risk of receiving this from your male partner as studies have shown little infection in those who have an inactive sexual life. Abstinence has helped cure the infection in many. Use of condoms and other barrier methods also is useful.

Finally, complete recovery, if symptomatic, can be had only if you take a complete course of treatment and practicing abstinence throughout. Your male partner also should be tested and treated alongside.

Hope I have clarified your query. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.

Thanks for your response. Are you saying that ureaplasma can cause urethritis or PID? I was diagnosed with cervicitis did this result from the ureaplasma? When you see a superadded fungal infection or you referring to a yeast infection?

Brief Answer:
Can cause both along with Mycoplasma species.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Ureaplasma can cause urethritis and pelvic inflammatory disease is usually caused by Mycoplasma species associated with this. As the diagnosis is very difficult, there is much unfamiliarity with these infections.

Cervicitis can be a result of mixed infection with several organisms.

Superimposed fungal infection is mostly candida infection, though exact diagnosis can be made only after testing.

Hope I have clarified your query. Please get back if you need more help. I will be glad to do so.

regards,
Shanti.V.
