Question : Don’t do excessive amounts of cocaine. Only started 4 months ago. Have noticed my nose is slightly discolored slightly purplish outside nose skin. Why and can this be reversed by abstaining?? WHY DOES THIS OCCUR
WILL IT GO AWAY BY ABSTAINING

Hello dear and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Cocaine crystals irritate the mucous lining of your nose.

This is why you notice slightly purplish color.

If you don't stop using cocaine other possible side effects can be bleeding of the nose membranes or sinusitis.

It is important that you stop using cocaine.

This way the nose lining will recover.

Another possible treatment can be surgery.

It is needed when the damage is permanent, especially in can of a nasal septum perforation.

You should see an ENT specialist for a physical examination.
