Have you given him any pain killer? If not then kindly give him one for relief. You may add an anti-allergic like cetirizine to reduce the itching.

Do give your husband some pain killers and see the effect.
If the "nerves" are not thick for you to take a photo then you may be mistaking the "nerves" with something else which can only be assessed by an examination.
