Experiencing Weight Loss, No Nausea Or Abdominal Pain. Do I Have Acute Or Chronic Pancreatitis?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Mar 2013
Question: How do I know if I have acute or chronic pancreatitis? (I can tell you almost everything I've eaten since I've had it and I can tell you what caused it) and does it ever heal and can I eventually go back and enjoy a slice of pizza? Also what vitamins and foods can I take to speed up the healing process? P.S I don't have greasy stools, I don't have nausea episodes, I work out 5 times a week, I have experienced weight loss prior to working out, and I don't have pain in my abdomen, but Its like I feel my pancreas is there (just a little uneasy is the best way to describe it but it doesn't hurt). Finally what are the signs of recovery?

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.Ratnakar Kini and I am pleased to answer your query.

Why do you think you have pancreatitis?
Was CT scan/MRI scan of the abdomen done? If done shall I have the report?

Kindly get back to me with the answers and I would give my opinion.

I have CT and MRI scans, blood work all that stuff. They did the whole microscope thing and took a piece for further testing. You name it they did it. after maybe 4 or 5 days while I was there, I was able to eat a XXXXXXX sandwich with minimal to no pain (last I could remember).while I was there (for 6 and 1/2 days) my amylase and lypase results were like somewhere between 700-1500 last I could remember and that was late December early January. Its not stones or anything blocking it, just inflamed pancreas form alcohol. I definitely got pancreatitis, do to an alcohol incident (1 time binge and I will NEVER consume it again) also I've never had any previous incidents. Also alcoholism runs in the family and so does diabetes (I haven't hit puberty either which I think my pancreas might have something to do with that since it deals with the endocrine system, and probably why after 1 incident I got pancreatitis but that is irrellevant). I am healthy and Im not allergic to anything. This is the only case Ive ever had in my life that was medical related. Also, I dont smoke or do drugs. P.S. right now Im on Prilosec and was recommended to take 2 a day. Also would you suggest I take the pancreas enzyme pills to help with digestion?

Hi,
Can I have the scan report?
Because without that, it is difficult to say whether it is acute pancreatitis or chronic.

Do you have diarrhea?
Do you still have abdominal pain.

Kindly get back to me with the answers and I would give my opinion.

I'm working on getting my hands on the reports and I had diarrhea initially while I was at the hospital, but I dont have it anymore and I only experience abdominal pain when I over eat or when I eat proccessed foods (like gronola almmond bar or Ritz crackers, which I knew was kind of bad for me, but it wasnt like eating a slice of pizza). What I have been eating that works for me is Blueberry Greek Yogurt, because it has no fat, 29 grams of protein and I believe the blueberry is great for my pancreas (something about radical protection and Vitamin C). My biggest concern is losing wieght because I weigh 142 IBs and I have to workout for 5 days of the week because of ROTC and with pancreatitis it makes it hard for me cause I want to eat more then the recommended 4 to 6 small snacks throughout the day (I can control it, its just a desire to eat more which is probably from old habits)

Hi,
If it is acute pancreatitis, you do not need pancreatic enzyme supplements.
But if it chronic pancreatitis, you may need enzyme supplements.

I would like to have the scan report so that I can give my opinion.
