Hello and welcome to "Ask A Doctor"

I have gone through your brief query and before I can guide you any further, I would like to know a few related details:

- How long since do you have this symptom?
- Any associated symptoms like itching, redness, blurry vision, a feeling of something in your eye etc?
- Does the symptom relieve on applying refresh tear drops?

Ideally artificial tear drops should provide essential relief. Persistence of symptoms should be evaluated with necessary eye exam and tests to determine the quality of the tears. Also substituting tear drops with ointments should provide relief for longer periods of time.

I hope this helps,

Please feel free to discuss further,

Regards

Hello again,
Thanks for writing back,

Sorry for the inadvertent delay in writing back,

From the details that you have provided, you seem to have a dry eye syndrome. I would suggest you to do the following:

- Like I said earlier, a comprehensive approach including eye exam, tear quality tests and some basic investigations to determine the exact cause has to be done. I would suggest you too consult with an ophthalmologist in your area.
- Your doctor may prescribe you with various drugs directed to treat the associated symptoms.
- You may discuss the need for substituting the eye drops for ointments.

Meanwhile, take fish liver oil capsules daily, as this is known to increase the viscosity of the tears produced.
Also consume foods rich in fatty acids like salmon and sardines.

I hope this helps,

Please feel free to discuss further,

Regards
