FOB Tests Shows 1 Out Of 6 Positive Is It Early Cancer?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Jun 2024
Question: Hi, I done 2 seperate FOB tests over a couple of weeks. 1 out of 6 were positive. I have hemorrhoids which were bleeding during the positive test. No other symptoms. Have been told most likely just hemorrhoids. I’m waiting to do a colonoscopy. Bloods tests all normal. Is it likely nothing serious? Just have anxiety and it plays on my mind.
I go regularly once a day early morning. Most of time ok but sometimes if I don’t feel quite ready I’ll go and feel like I’m finished and when I wipe soft stools keep coming out. Is this anything serious? Just had me worried it has something to do with the other. Could it be I’m just not fully ready? Diet? Early morning? Nothing to do with the other? Not likely cancer?

Brief Answer:
It does not seem to be cancer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thank You for the query.

How old are You?
Generally if You see visible blood in stool coming from hemorrhoids, FOBT must be possitive as it detects even invisible amount of blood. Moroever, the most common reason of blood in stool are hemorrhoids.
If You are older than 50, colonoscopy is advisable. If You are young person, colonoscopy is not necessary as colon cancer is strongly associated with age (which is over 50).
So in simple words, it is rather hemorrhoids than anything else.

The other symptoms mentioned by You are not specific for cancer either. It can be diet, it can be stress.

Hooe this helps.

Ok thanks. I’m 42.
Would there be more positive FOBT results if it was something serious?

Brief Answer:
No it would not.

Detailed Answer:
FOBT can be possite or negative. There can be no other result. I would say that the blood form colon cancer is invisible and from hemorhoids is visible.

Colon cancer is hardly possible at Your age if there was no colon cancer in Your family.

Brief Answer:
Yes, no need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Yes indeed. The possibilitynof colon cancer is extremely low. Please try to relax and do not think about the worse. Hemmorhoids are the most probable reason.
