Hi,
Regarding diet in diabetes, kindly find following general guidelines:-

1. Modern concept of diet in Diabetes is to allow everything but in moderation. For instance, you can eat sugar in tea since you will require only 1 tea spoon sugar at a time but you should not eat sweets since they may contain several tea spoons of sugar. Thus you may take even 4-5 cups of tea in a day but not all at one time. This example is to set aside the foremost myth that sugar is prohibited in Diabetes.
2. As and when you require more than 1 tea spoon sugar you should take sugar substitutes such as Aspartame or Sucralose.
3. At this point, I must admit that if a patient is overweight or obese, he/she should avoid common sugar since it provides avoidable source of calories.
4. Almost all vegetables can be taken. Some to be taken in smaller quantity include Potato, Sweat Potato, beat, Arvi etc.
5. Contrary to a common belief that those things that grow below earth are to be prohibited, I must tell that Radish and Turnip can be taken in any quantity but Beet, Arvi, Zimikand, potato and sweet potatoes should be taken in limited quantity, easy to remember that these vegetables should be taken in gravy form only, not as a dry vegetables since one is likely to take too much in dry form.
5. Regarding pulses, a rough guide is to take half to three fourth of a serving once a day.
6. Non vegetarian dishes to be taken in place of pulses and one should avoid mutton since that being red meat is liable to raise bad cholesterol. Easy to remember that 2 average sized pieces of non veg are equivalent to pulses' substitute.
7. Most fruits can be taken when they are fresh but the moment they become over ripe, should be avoided.

Hope this much should suffice but I shall be more than happy to answer any further query in this context.

Wishing you good health
