Question: For about a week, I have had mild discomfort/sensitivity to touch on the left side of one of my fingers (near the fingernail). I don't see any pus or discoloration. I've pasted a link to a picture below but I'm guessing it looks unremarkable. (It is the left side of the finger in the middle in that picture.) Do you know what this could be? Is it anything to worry about?

Brief Answer:
Please upload images, probably infection of nail fold

Detailed Answer:
Hello, thanks for writing here and trusting us.

I am Dr XXXXXXX ,a dermatologist and I hope I can understand your concern.

Tenderness and discomfort near finger nails probably point towards paraonychia.

It is the bacterial infection of nail folds.Since it can be in early stage ,so Probably there is no discoloration or pus because of early stage of infection.
My above opinion is based on history mentioned by you but I will request you to upload images .

I can guide you in a better way once pics are uploaded .

I hope we will continue our discussion.

Thanks.

Either way, do I need any treatment?

Brief Answer:
Oral antibiotics in case condition aggrevates.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, thanks for follow up.As there is not much discomfort ,redness, pus at this stage ,there is no specific treatment required right now.It will be better to wait and watch. In case , condition progrrsses,a course of oral antibiotics like cephalexin or cefadroxil may be required . Application of ice packs or hot fomentation will be also helpful if you are comfortable with it.It will be better to avoid harsh soaps and any other irritants to avoid damage to skin.I hope this will be helpful for you.Free feel to ask in case of any concern
Thanks
