Question : For the last week or more I have been experiencing a dull pain in my left chest above the breast. It is near the center of the chest. It is not severe, but sometimes it radiates to my back as well. I have thought that possibly it is from a too-tight bra or indigestion, but now I'm beginning to worry a bit. It has subsided completely a couple of times, but then has returned.

Hi there,

The symptoms you describe can be due to several pathologies.

First of all, it is important to rule out any cardiac conditions, e.g. by an electrocardiogram, cardiac enzymes, and possibly an echocardiogram whenever possible. Ischemic heart disease often presents as chest pain during activity, with relief when resting or taking nitroglycerine sprays.

If your symptoms are caused by indigestion, symptoms are usually provoked by food intake, and subsides some time later spontaneously.
