Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to increased fluid retention ( swollen feet and joints).

An infection or metabolic disorder can not be excluded either.

Coming to this point, I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam and some tests:

- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart structure and function
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- blood electrolytes
- kidney and liver function tests.

In the meantime I recommend closely monitor your blood pressure values and heart rate.

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need!

Kind regards,

I've had blood transfusions and iron infusions in the past few years. Could this have something to do with my blood level or iron level?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Your symptoms do not seem to be related to anemia or iron deficiency (it can cause headache but joint pain is really atypical).

For this reason, I recommend going to the ER and performing the above tests.

Hope to have been helpful!

Brief Answer:
I am sorry for misunderstanding!

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

I am sorry for the error while writing. Joint swelling is not a common symptom of anemia. But it is usually related to fluid retention (heart failure, electrolytes imbalance, kidney or liver dysfunction).

That is why I recommended performing other tests to investigate on the above possible causes.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
