For The Past Week, I Have Been Feeling Something In

Question: For the past week, I have been feeling something in my throat as if something is stuck there. It feels like as if "a pill is stuck". It's, I would say, in the bottom of my throat. I have been drinking water, even hot water, but nothing is really helping. I, also, tried sprite as I researched that carbonated drink can help, but the sprite did not have much gas in it to work. I can breathe, but it is an uncomfortable feeling. This never happened to me before. Please guide me.

Brief Answer:
It may be due to an acid reflux and needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

The most common cause of lump in throat (globus pharyngeus) are anxiety and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

With a reflux of acid from the stomach back into the food pipe and throat, there is a local muscle spasm which triggers a feeling of an object caught in the throat.

Avoid carbonated drinks.
Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine.
Avoid spicy and heavy food.
Quit smoking (if apples).
Be physically active.
Don't be sleep deprived.
Be well hydrated.
Sleep with head end elevated by 35 degrees.
De stress yourself by meditation and yoga.
Get some sun exposure.

If the symptoms do not improve, please visit your clinician for complete evaluation, physical clinical examination and management.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.

Detailed Answer:
Pleasure is all mine.

I also hope that it is not.
Just make a few dietary and life style modifications to restrict acid reflux.
If the symptoms do not improve, you might need medical attention to evaluate it further.

Happy living.
Warm regards.
