Question : my mom suffers from sever pain in the left side of the body specially after she wakes up in the morning or when she sits for long time , we have tried all the tests including an MRI and everything seems normal

Hello XXXXXXX and thanks for writing in
Before I give you a detailed reply I would like to know some of the detail:
1. Does pain occur on whole left side or on left arm or leg?
2. What is the duration of pain?
3. Which part of body, the MRI was done and what was the report?
4. Does pain increases in winter and work?
5. Is there any weakness or numbness on the left side of body?
There are multiple causes for the one sided pain like Lumber spondylosis, Neurological deficit or pain, Muscular atrophy, calcium or minerals deficiency. To get to a diagnosis clinical examination and some investigations are required.
Hope you reply soon so that I can help you further.
Best Wishes

It seems that your mother has PIVD (Prolapse Inter-vertebral Disc) at cervical or lumber level or at both the levels. Numbness in hand and foot, Slip disc in MRI report are the symptoms suggestive of the disease.
In my opinion you must consult your spine surgeon with the films of the MRI and check for any nerve compression. The line of treatment for this is medication with proper physiotherapy and exercise, If this therapy fails surgery can be planned.
Follow some life style changes to rid get from the pain:
1. Use hard bed, avoid pillow or use thin pillow.
2. Your sitting posture should be straight.
3. Avoid jerky movements of spine. Avoid riding or sitting on bicycle or motorcycle.
4. You can take anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxants drugs orally or You can apply anti inflammatory and muscle relaxants gel locally.
5. You can wear spine supports like collar or belt if symptoms are worse.
6. Regularly change the posture while working or sitting.
7. Do regular exercise as advised by your physiotherapist.
8. Do hot fermentation of the back.
Hope this will help you. Other reason for the pain on left side can be neurological defect for which nerve study can be done. Feel free to consult your doctor and get to a diagnosis.
