Brief Answer:
There can be many causes for testicular swelling and you might need a scan

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

A lump in the testis which was previously not there can mean the following conditions

1. An infection or inflammation in the testis, epididymis or scrotum wall.
2. Fluid collection surrounding the testis.
3. Tortuous blood vessels in the scrotum
4. A neoplastic change.

Usually pain and swelling for a short duration history is due to infection and inflammation causes.

You need to get examined by your family doctor or surgeon and then get a urologist opinion and an ultrasound scan of the testis and is a reliable method to come down to a possible diagnosis.
