Question : Good evening,
I am 20 years old female. I been on birth control for over a year now. I am currently using the patch which never gave me problems. I use my patch for three weeks and change it every Sunday. For my last week i make sure to remove on that Sunday as well. My period been coming every Tuesday of that week that I remove my patch. However this past Sunday I removed my patch and expected my period to come that Tuesday like usual, but this time I got it on Thursday, which NEVER EVER happens. Since I got on birth control this is the first time Im this late. This Wednesday however I went to the bathroom and a big egg white discharge with some spots of blood on it. I am feeling nauseous all the time, and im pretty confused as to what this could be. Im most likely exaggerating but im still curious. Please help. Thanks and sorry for the huge paragraph.

Brief Answer:
It can be due to mild hormonal changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concerns.

The delay in periods by two days while using the birth control patch regularly can be caused by a mild hormonal disturbance and is not worrisome.

The discharge that you saw with mild specs of blood can be solidified vaginal mucosa with specs of blood suggesting an impending period.

This is not related to pregnancy or any vaginal infection. There is no need to worry.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow-up queries that you have.

Wishing you good health.

Regards.
