Question: Good morning, I have a query regarding leptospirosis, we have recently visited watertheme park in XXXXXXX with 2 kids 8y and 6y. yesterday health department closed the waterpark because some kids caught leptospirosis after visiting the waterpark. still now no symptoms. i want to know , should we take any precautions or any advice would you suggest is appreciated.

My advice is as follows:
Yes all those come in contact with the mentioned park, water, swimming or even just travelled inside the park need doxycycline once a week (not in pregnancy,kids) or Azithromycin twice a week prophylactically through the exposure period is needed weekly. After exposure just one dose taken within 24-72 hours of exposure should suffice.
An md medicine or infectious diseases specialist can prescribe these meds plus if any symptoms (anular lesions, fever, fatigue, pains, vomit). Blood test, pcr , antigen tests may be needed.
