Got Hurt In Finger, Hurts With Pressure, No Bruising. How To Overcome This?

Question: Anything other than rest?
I'm not quite sure how I may have harmed my finger, closest thought is after getting extremely mad at work I threw down a pen I was using. (Friday)
Yesterday (Tuesday) it started noticeably hurting. It hurts at the last joint where it connects to the hand. Mostly it feels stiff or like a stretched rubber band is attached to my finger and it stretches more when I raise my finger.
It slightly hurts with small pressure, like a pretty decent bruise but there's no visual bruising with the exception that for perhaps a few hours I could see a slight blue vein between my second and last knuckle.
I can move the finger up and down without pain.
The knuckle feels larger as opposed to the finger on my other hand.
I feel like if I could pop the knuckle it would feel better.
I realized I forgot to say this is my index finger on my right (dominant) hand.
The only thing I've tried is rest and ice.

Hello and Welcome to XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us.

From description it seems to be muscle strain to your index finger.
Giving rest is most important for healing.
Beside rest, taking anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen as and when required will be helpful to reducing pain and inflammation.
Doing hot fomentation and applying muscle relaxant gel will be helpful to reducing pain, stiffness and spasm.
Avoid lifting weight and do not exercise that involves painful muscles.

Hope this helps you.Let me know if you have any more concern.

should I try to 'buddy tape it' or splint it or is it better to leave 'open'?
