Question: Got overzealous cleaning ear with mineral oil and water. Urgent care Rx’d cortisporin ear drops 3x day for inflammation and any bacteria. 6 days, Hearing is not improved. No pain or discharge. Would ceftin 500 bid help or medrol dose pack

Hii. Welcome to th healthcare services. You can start tab augmentin 1 gn twice daily x 7 days. Take tablet levicetrizine 5 mg at bedtime x 2 week to decrease the allergic inflammation of the ear canal. Don't clean the ear with mineral oil or water as it can cause injury to the ear canal and cause oedema of the ear canal. Hearing may get impaired. So start augmentin. You can put icthamol glycerine ear wick to decrease the oedema but need to change after 2 days. Hearing will improved over a period of 2-3 week. Don't panic. Review after 3 week.
