Greetings. I Am Soon Scheduled For A Procedure To Remove

Question: Greetings. I am soon scheduled for a procedure to remove a granuloma on the left side of my throat of my "voice process" by laser (direct laryngoscopy) with an injection of cortisone under general anesthesia. I will be informed about the protocol for the procedure and post-procedure, but could you explain to me how long such a procedure will take, and the recovery from the procedure? The doctor has only told me so far that I would not be able to eat or drink for two hours after the procedure. Are there additional issues related to this procedure and injection of cortisone? I assume that the laser removal is done through a small incision in my neck. Does this affect my voice even though it is not on the vocal cords themselves? Will there be discomfort or pain? Thank you.

Hi
Thank you for reaching out at Ask A Doctor
I have read your query and understood your concern
Usually a micro laryngoscopy procedure takes around 30- 60 mins and you can return home on the same day, you may experience some mild discomfort and soreness in your jaw but pain is rarely severe. You will be prescribed OTC painkillers to ease the pain. Noticeable changes can be noted from 4 to 6 weeks. The procedure is done through a scopy and no incision will be made.
Hope I have answered your query
