Brief Answer:
Use benadryl drops and oral antihistamines such benadryl or citerizine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

According to your symptoms of sudden pain, irritation and swelling in one eye I believe it can be an insect bite in eye or near eye.
Using erythromycin cream could have helped to prevent infection in eye lid at bite side.
You may have needed to use antihistamines such benadryl or citerizine orally.
You can start to take now a tablet of citerizine daily.
Also you may use benadryl drops at the irritated eye.
Putting ice compresses on it could have helped swelling and irritation to go down. You can still apply cold compresses.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
