Question : My son has esophagitis. Could it have been "caused" by pot smoking?
Brief Answer:
Not directly,but probbaly yes.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to XXXXXXX thanks for the query.
Pot smoking, cigarettes or similar substances causes irritation and inflammation of throat, esophagus and stomach. It can also aggravate GERD symptoms and cause reflux oesophagitis. Common cause at his age is alcohol which will irritate esophageal mucosa especially in combination with smoking. Other causes are rare and usually seen in elderly. So he should completely stop smoking and alcohol drinking till symptoms disappear. Also, he must avoid spicy food, overeating and fried food.
If symptoms dont subside in 5-7 days he should do gastroscopy for further evaluation. Wish you good health. Regards
