Have Hashimoto Thyroiditis And Swollen Lymph Nodes In Neck. Should I Be Worried?
Question: Hello,
I have some swollen lymph nodes in the anterior triangle of my neck on the right side. I have had them for about five months. They seem to swell a little bit and then go down a little bit from time to time however i can feel them and sometimes am able to see them. It seems like it is a chain from under my ear and under my jawline diagonal towards my thyroid. I can feel the carotid artery in these lumps. I have hashimoto thyroiditis. I am 30 years old and female. I recently had an ultrasound done of my thyroid and lymph nodes. The radiologist said every thing seemed fine with two benign nodes on the left side of thyroid. I have not been to the endoconologist yet and I have not picked up my results. I have been pushing on them last few days and now they seem to protrude more. They are painless. I can feel about two or three on the left side and see one barley when i move my neck in a certain way, I can now feel a small swelling of one on the right side same place. Three months ago I had an ENT look at my neck and she said just to watch and see if they swell big like a golf ball size..I dont want to wait for anything like that..She found that my voice box was inflamed a little and said that the lymph nodes are probably due to that-I tried to explain they have been swollen for months now. Its now been three more months so a total of about 5 or 6. My blood work is great however I have fluctuating thyroid levels and just went through another bout of thryoiditis but mild. I have swollen lymph nodes I refer to them as marbles in the sides of my neck they are movable and rubbery. I have had them since childhood. I even got so paranoid that I begged for a fine needle aspiration, everything was fine and this was before these other nodes came up. The nodes that I am feeling in the anterior part feel connected to the same chain. They feel oblong and are kinda movable more so sideways.
I have tested borderline positive for Lupus. I get a fishnet rash on my legs in the sun. My XXXXXX was speckled and homogeneous. Also positive for sticky blood. Nothing has been done for the recent XXXXXX since there are no other symptoms and the it was borderline. I also from time to time get strange body sensations from pin prick, tingling, inner vibrations, twitching that will be random all over my body and last only a few seconds. It seems to happen for a while and go away. So I did a lot of tests for the sensations by a neurologist and they found nothing even did a muscle test, MRI, CAT scan, EEG, and a tilt test. All of this testing was before the lymph nodes. My worry is that I have lymphoma or some sort of cancer...Please help I will be going to the Doctor soon but with all this research it has really gotten me terrified. I have read about a slow progression lymphoma that is worse then the aggressive one..My friends Father just passed from this and he had no symptoms until it was too late..I am very worried as you can see. Regarding the nodes on your neck:- Nodes in the the neck are a common findings with many individuals. They can be a result of infection in various neck structures commonest being the throat, ears, gums and even scalp. If they are not painful and increasing in size and are not associated with fever, there is nothing to worry. The cause for worry is when they are matted together, are inflammed, have pus in them and are associated with fever and weight loss. In that case one has to rule out TB. In your case it appears very unlikely.
Another cause for enlarged nodes is lymphoma which is a type of malignancy and there is nothing to indicate that possibility in your case. I think you are over worried.
If you are so upset you may go in for a lymph node biopsy though in my opinion, it is not indicated.
Regarding lupus and positive XXXXXX i do`nt think that any thing needs to be done at the moment though you should be under observation of a rheumatologist.
Once again, stop worrying so much as there does`nt seem to be anything majorly wrong with you.
