Question: Hi Doctor,
I have had for a few weeks lightheadedness, dull headaches and tired eyes. Have a slight problem with acid reflux, tension in neck joint and may have had a little nicotine overdose with patches. Can't explain the lightheadedness and headaches? All other vital signs are good, bp and heart rate.
Can you help?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXX,

Thanks for your query.

Regarding the symptoms as mentioned in your post, kindly let us know about the following:
1. Any history of recent illness?
2. Sensation of lightheadedness, dull headaches and tired eyes can be secondary to Diabetes, Hormonal or Metabolic imbalance.
Is there is significant past history of systemic disease like Diabetes, Thyroid disorder, etc. ?
3. Any recent history of Stress, improper nutrition & lack of sleep?
4. Any history of prolonged intake of certain medications?

If your answer to the above mentioned questions is NO, then the symptoms can be attributed to inadequate hydration status & electrolyte imbalance of the body or dietary deficiencies of certain nutrients like Iron, Calcium, Vitamin D, Vitamin B 12, Folic acid, etc. which help in blood formation & nerve conduction.

Symptomatic relief can be obtained by intake of:
1. Analgesics like Diclofenac (to be taken after meals)+ application of muscle relaxant gel for tension in neck joint & headache.
2. Pantoperazole + Domperidone (to be taken 30 min before meals) for acid reflux
3. Multivitamin & multimineral supplements including iron, calcium & Vit D needs to be added in your diet.
4. Symptoms of lightheadedness & headaches can also be attributed to nicotine overdose, which will get relieved on discontinuing it.

If you still find any difficulty, kindly get certain investigations like complete blood count, fresh estimation of blood pressure & blood sugar levels & Thyroid profile done to rule out any pathological cause for the symptoms.

There is no need to worry, you will be fine.
Till then, maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition status, get good sleep, exercise regularly and avoid stress.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Please let me know if I need to clarify further.
Thanks & take care.

Thanks.
1. No recent illness.
2. No history of those illnesses
3. Do suffer from stress, sleep and improving poor nutrition.
4. No prolonged medicinal use.

already taking some multi vitamins and Vitamin D specifically for early form of osteoarthritis. Blood pressure monitored at home and normal but cholesterol at 6.1. Nicotine overdose a few weeks ago now but using e cigarette to cut down on real cigs now.

Have also had ok blood tests on kidney and thyroid. So obviously a mystery to me as only time I get headache before was from dehydration/smoking. Headache only light and more like pressure on side of head and behind eyes.

Hello XXXXX,

Thanks for your follow up query.

According to the case history as mentioned in your post, it can be attributed to stress/tension headache.
Sensation of pressure on side of head and behind eyes associated with tension in neck is characteristic of it.

Though symptomatic relief can be obtained with analgesics or analgesic+antihistamine combination, it is more important to manage the causative factor, that is stress.

It is needed that you take certain precautions regarding your diet & lifestyle, such as:
1. Take soft, plain, non-spicy foods.
2. Drink lots of water to maintain adequate hydration.
3. Avoid fast foods & gas producing food products like cabbage, etc.
4. Get a good sleep of minimum 7 hours per day.
5. Keep away stress, think positive.
6. Exercise regularly & practice meditation.

Also get your eye sight checked by an Ophthalmologist to rule out any refractive errors.

Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.
