Hi

Nausea is a common complaint and can be associated with different conditions such as:(1) infection- gastritis which is infection/inflammation of the stomach can occur as a result of viral or bacterial infection, however in most cases it would be accompanied by other symptoms such as vomiting
(2) strong odors or certain foods- in some persons certain odors or foods can provoke nausea however this would, in most cases, be intermittent and relieved by the odor or food is removed. In some persons it may persist till antinausea medication is used
(3) it can occur in motion sickness
(4) it can occur in headaches or migraines.
(5) it can occur in persons who maybe experiencing dizziness or vertigo which is the feeling as though things are moving around you. These can occur in a number of settings such as excess ear wax, ear infection, sinusitis, abnormality of the inner ear
(6) it can also be brought on by emotional stress
(7) it can occur in abdominal conditions such as gallbladder disease/ stones in the gallbladder. Acute problems in the abdomen such as appendicitis or pancreatitis can also be associated with nausea however in these cases abdominal pain is usually present and there may be other symptoms such as fever and loss of appetite
(8) it can occur as a side effect of any medication so if you are on any medication then you may want to check whether nausea is a side effect
(9) it can occur as a result of ulcers in the stomach , however in this case you would usually have a history of reflux disease
(10) in cases of head trauma and also increased pressure in the brain due to the presence of any space occupying lesion whether benign or otherwise
(11)liver disease such as infections such as hepatitis B can also cause nausea. This is a viral infection that in most cases can resolve on its own , a few persons develop long term problems. It is transmitted via sexual or blood contact and symptoms include fever, joint pain, feeling as though have the flu, nausea, fatigue and loss of appetite
(12) Certain cancers are also associated with nausea such as bone and stomach cancer

In the absence of any other symptoms other than the nausea , it is unlikely to be serious and you can consider monitoring it for another day and see if it resolves. If it does not or it is associated with other symptoms which may pinpoint the cause then you should consider visiting you doctor for a check up.
He or she will take your history and likely examine your abdomen, ears ( if associated with symptoms of ear infection), review any medication that you might be taking.
Further investigations would depend on the results of the examination.

I hope that this information is helpful to you and I hope that you feel better soon, nausea, I think, is one of the worse feelings
