Hello,
Welcome to XXXXXXX

The swelling looks red and inflamed.
Where is the location of this swelling?
Is it painful or itchy ?
Is there a central black spot (punctum) on the swelling ?
What is the consistency of the lesion? Is it soft or doughy or firm like your ear lobe or nose or hard like a bone ?
Is there any pulsations when you touch the swelling ?

The lesion looks like an abscess in the picture but an abscess is painful and will break down to release pus and it would not stay usually for 5 weeks.

The other possibility I am thinking of is an inflamed sebaceous cyst.

Incision and drainage is the treatment for abscess and an infected pointing sebaceous cyst. Before putting in a needle we should rule out whether the swelling is vascular in origin or not.

Waiting for more details so that I can advice you better.
Take care

The location of this swelling is right arm elbow
It is painful upon touch .....used to be itchy first time...but now no longer itchy..
I don't see black spot on the swelling ....
the consistency is more like palpable and soft like ear lobe...
I don't notice any pulsation when touching...

what worries me is that it won't go away after 5 weeks...
Tried AB pill and AB ointment....but did not work..

Should I take her to ER to get the I&D?...

Hello,
Thanks for the details.
It is painful and soft in consistency. It seems like an abscess (collection of pus) to me and photograph looks like abscess.
An abscess can start as an insect bite or any itchy condition, the bite or scratch can introduce infection into the skin.
I would recommend you to see a doctor for Incision and drainage. The faster the pus is released the sooner it will heal. If appointment with doctor is faster in ER go for it, otherwise a dermatologist or surgeon can be consulted if you get an appointment with them soon enough.
Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.
