Question : for c 2 years I have painful reddening (worsening) above my big toe nails. I also have some reddening above my finger nails; painful if any pressure is placed on them.

The painful reddening above your big toe and finger nails may be due to local skin infection and inflammation.

This condition is usually seen in bacterial infections of the skin around the nail.

But contact dermatitis which is due to contact with some chemicals or like detergants will also cause redness with pain in acral parts like fingers and toes.

But the physical examination is necessary to know the exact cause for this condition.

So I advise you to consult Physician or Dermatologist for the examination and treatment.
