Hi,

Your symptoms are consistent with features of upper Bacterial infection especially streptococcal infection occasionally present with similar features. The duration of symptoms, the grade of fever (body temperature recording) and clinical features/signs of throat and tonsils help doctor to differentiate amongst the two close possibilities. Hence it is always safe to consult and discuss with a nearby doctor.

Presuming you do not have streptococcal infection, the following measures should work on you:

1. Salt water gargles or gargling from XXXXXXX warm water mixed with disprin tablets. The gargling should be done thrice a day until your throat feels better.
2. Acetaminophen tablets which are available in India as Tab. Calpol - three times a day for 2-3 days.
3. Diphenhydramine containing syrups such as Syp. Benadryl 1tsp thrice a day for 3-5 days.
4. A glass of warm milk mixed with 1 tsp of turmeric powder.
5. Plenty of fluids and warm food. Avoid cold and refrigerated food.

If the symptoms do not resolve in a couple of days, then throat swab needs to be tested.

Hope this information is useful.

Take care
