Question: Hi, I am a 27yr Male, I recently started having spasm in my neck feels like a pull. It started off all of sudden from nowhere when i was in my friends house, we were just talking and all of a sudden i started to get this pull like feel in my front neck and this is been there for almost 3 weeks now and hasnt gone. My GP put me on Robaxin for two weeks helped a bit but not completely. I had to see my nuerologist since i had numbness and tingling in my ring and pink fingers on my left hand. I told him about the neck spasm and he put me on Lorzone 750mg and I had anxiety issues (I always used to worry about my symptoms a lot) so he put me on ativan 1mg every 12 hours or as needed.
After a week i had this neck muscle spasm I think i started having tremors , i couldnt hold my neck for a long time as after a few seconds of looking straight I feel like it moved to adjust the weight or something. I also get it when i am sleeping i feel like my head moved... I am not sure if they are tremors or real movement. I have had fasciulations for 4 months and doctors seems to think its BFS as it all over the place. I also feel tremors in my torsos or at the side of my body or I am not sure what to call it may be its is twitching I am not sure.. I had cervical MRI two months back and all it had was some minor buldge in c1 and c2 and cavernous hemogioma my nuerologist looked at it and said it usually incidental finding. So i am not sure whats causing this spasm in my neck, also after taking ativan i feel like my jaw feels heavy on the side is it a possible side effect..
Family History
My mom has cervical dystonia and i am scared that i have got it too. Does my symptoms suggest that? I dont have any dystonic posture yet but I am not sure if my spasm are related to that.

Meds
I am on Nuerontin(for some nerve pain i had before i ve been on this for 3 months) can this cause muscle spasm in neck
Lorzone 750mg (Started last week)
Ativan 1mg (Started last week)

Also, I sometimes feel something is in my throat it had some mild infection which i took tablets for and some ear infection i had to stop cefidir since it was causing diarrhea

Brief Answer:
Cervical dystonia can be inherited disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

To confirm cervical dystonia proper clinical examination is required along with radiological investigation. There is genetic inheritance with one parent having dystonia, usually autosomal dominant trait with mutation in DYT gene.
Usually inherited disease are presented early in life, late presentation at 27 yrs is less likely.
If cavernous haemangioma is altering intra cranial pressure then if can give such kind of presentation.

Neurontin contains gabapentin which can lead to neurological side effects like Drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, tiredness, blurred/double vision, unusual eye movements, or shaking (tremor) may occur. So I will advise to hold neurotin and see for changes.

For your fasciculation you can start beta blockers consulting your doctor.
Slurred speech and muscle spasm are some of side effects of ativan but heaviness of jaw is not directly related.
If your symptoms are not getting reduced I will advise to go for MRI brain. As there is generalized muscular involvement, central cause should be looked for.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care

Thanks for your answer..
So should i ask my doctor for a replacement on Gabepentin? I get this tremor while i trying to sleep as well.. Should i just stop it?
I am taking Ativan for anxiety and Lorzone is helping me with the muscle relaxant, but this being going on for a 3 weeks now.. What should i do next?

Also, I been having some intermittent facial spasm not sure whats causing them, I seeing a dentist tomorrow because my jaw alignment hasnt been right from the time ive know. Am i in right direction for that? Could the alignment causing the neck spasm.. I sometimes feel somethign itchy below my neck probably near the thyroid gland could this also cause spasm.. Also the main thing is i feel there is something in my throat when i swallow.

Please help me with some direction here that i can go through..

Also, the cervical dystonia my mom got was just a couple of years ago does this change the theory of inheritance

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Yes you can ask for replacement for gabapentin.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Yes you can ask for replacement for gabapentin, or you can hold this medicine for some days and see for improvement in your symptoms.
Regarding continuation of your medicine you need to consult your treating doctor,he will guide according to your present complaints.

For your intermittent facial spasm I will advise you to consult neurologist and,ENT surgeon for throat swelling.

As your mom got cervical dystonia in later age ,severity of problem reduces and pattern of inheritence may change.

Take care.

Thanks for your answer. Can you explain and bit more on the context where you explained the part about inherited cervical dystonia the last few lines on your previous message ??
I don't have any further questions you've been really helpful .. I am off gabapentin now ... Let's see if it resolves anything

Brief Answer:
patterns

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

There are some patterns in theory if inheritance like -Autosomal dominant -severe type ,if one parent has disease it will definitely manifest in child.

Autosomal recessive -There are chances that disease may manifest in child or may not-So in your case due to late presentation of disease to your mother ,there is probability of autosomal recessive inheritance, in this case disease will be in its mild form.

Take care
