Question : Hi, my 9 year old daughter complained of a stomach ache and a blocked feeling in her throat. She then vomited forcefully and a lot of vomit came out of her nose as well as her mouth. Her stomach ache went away right after she vomited. The vomited contents had a lot of clear mucus mixed in. After blowing her nose several times her nose became completely blocked. She has no fever. Is this nasal congestion because she threw up out of her nose? What can we do?

                                    Hi
Welcome to health care magic,
It must be other way round - that she had a blocked nose and post nasal drip ( secretions trickling down the throat during sleep). The swallowd mucus irritates the stomach causing vomiting. That is why she felt relieved after vomiting!
Ofourse the vomitus coming out thro the nose will add to the congestion.
After cleaning you can put normal saline nasal drops or pediatric nasal decongestant nose drops once or twice and she will be OK.
All the best
GOD bless

Thank you so much Dr Uma. We were so concerned because she also developed a croupy cough and itchy throat after vomiting that we took her to the ER. By the time we got to the ER, her cough had subsided and she was just very congested. The ER doctor basically agreed with your dx that it was probably a respiratory virus. They gave her Claritin for the runny nose/congestion and sent us home.
Thank you so much! God bless!

Thanks for the details.
Claritine is a medicine used as anti arrergic and relieves nasal congestion.
Antibiotics have no role in viral infections.
She will have some symptoms of cold and cough for 5-6 days and then will improve.
