Question: 7 weeks ago I was in a car accident where the vehicle rolled numerous times down a steep embankment. I hit the right side of my head a few times but have no memory of the accident except for the initial roll. I developed two large black eyes and still have the following symptoms: neck and upper back pain, headaches, dizziness, foggy thinking, loss of concentration, memory loss of the accident, light and noise sensitivity, blurred vision and ringing in my ears. My CT scan was clear and MRI showed no brain bleeding. My doctor is focusing more on my 'whiplash' and anxiety, but I am worried about my 'brain' symptoms etc. Help...what am I experiencing, will I improve, what can I be doing to aid my recovery etc

Hello

Thanks for the query

There are a couple of things which come to mind with the symptoms you report and none of them is life-threatening. Most of your symptoms you have mentioned to me looks to me like related to anxiety rather than a true neurological disease.

Regarding the black eye's also called as periorbital hematoma, is bruising around the eye commonly due to an injury to the face. Rarely it can be due to fractures of the base of the skull. CT scan of the skull does not reveal any fractures.

Regarding the neck and the upper back pain, I also feel it to be related to whiplash injury of the soft tissues and muscles of the neck. Dizziness and ringing in the ears could be due to disturbances in the inner ear (post-traumatic vertigo). Many of the other symptoms are related to your anxiety.

So I personally feel you have developed psychological symptoms like anger, anxiety & depression following your injury. MRI and CT scan does not reveal any signs of fracture or XXXXXXX injuries to the brain and the spinal cord. You have the potential to recover fully from your physical injuries and psychological issues. Do continue on Physical therapy and medications to reduce your anxiety and depression.

I thank you again for submitting your question. I hope you find my response to be both helpful and adequate. If you have any additional concerns regarding your question I would be happy to address them.

Sincerely,
