Brief Answer:
Please take home remedies and tablet paracetamol

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Tamang,

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy. I read your query and understand your health concern.

Since you are 5 months into pregnancy, I would suggest you to try simple home remedies for cold with blocked and running nose like taking steam inhalation with karvol plus capsule thrice a day, drinking ginger and other herbal tea like warm tulsi tea, keeping yourself warm by wearing warm clothes, keeping your hands and feet covered all the time.

As for medication, I suggest you to take tablet Paracetamol or Dolo 650mg thrice daily after food for 2 to 3 days. This is available over the counter, and is 100 percent safe to take in pregnancy.

If your cold symptoms are bothersome, then you may take a single tablet of cetrizine 10mg. This is a prescription drug. Please get it prescribed by your doctor.

Most important of all, please follow covid appropriate behavior like frequent washing of hands, maintaining social distance, and wearing a mask.

Please let me know if you have other medical concerns.

Wish you happy pregnancy, and get well soon.

Regards,
Dr Shanthi E

Brief Answer:
please take symptomatic treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Tamang,

Sorry to hear that you have received a faint positive line on the coviself test kit. It is right to go for RTPCR test now.

I would suggest you to take symptomatic treatment now, like warm saline gargles (warm water with salt) or hexidine mouth gargle 3 to 4 times a day, along with tablet Dolo 650mg every 4 hours to get rid of the body ache. I am glad that cold and running nose is gone.

Do not panic; please isolate yourself from others for the next 7 days. Follow covid appropriate behavior as suggested in my earlier answer.

Drink plenty of fluids and keep yourself warm. Do not worry, nothing will happen to your pregnancy. You will be safe.

Let me know about your RTPCR test result. Until then, rest well.

Wishing you speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr Shanthi E

Hello Doctor,
My RTPCR report has arrived. It is positive with CT value of 19.45. Along with me, my husband and mother are also positive with CT value of 20 and 19.38 respectivly. Please suggest what to be done.
Thank you
doctor
Answered by Dr. Shanthi E (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
you need to follow the same treatment protocol

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Tamang,

I am sorry that all three of you have tested positive for RTPCR. Your respective CT value suggests low viral load. However, the level of numerical CT values is not used in determining infectiousness of COVID-19 patients or in deciding patient management protocols.

Hence, in my opinion, the treatment remains same for you.

As for your husband and mother, same measures apply along with other medications as below:

- home isolation
- maintain hydration
- temperature and percentage oxygen saturation (sPo2) check every 4 hours
- Tablet Paracetamol every 4 hours
- tablet Vitamin C thrice daily
- tablet Zinc twice daily
- Consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables
- consume freshly prepared food

Most important of all, please follow Covid appropriate behavior, wherever you are.

Hope this helps, XXXXXXX

Get well soon.

Dr Shanthi E
