Question: Hello Doctor, I am suffering from joint pains since a year. The pains come and go on all joints, but knee pain always remains. My finger joints also ache. The load bearing capacity of a joint under pain is very bad. My orthopaedic suspects Rheumatoid arthritis and I have gone through an initial MRI. The follow up appointment is pending. I am a 41 year old, athletic male. My weight is 70kgs. Family has no background of Arthritis. I am under extreme anxiety and stress presently. I have had protected sex several times with sex workers in the last 8-9 years, but not in the last 2 years. Can this be be a HIV induced arthritis? I have a family and very very scared at the moment

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be HIV induced arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcaremagic,
Your arthritis is unlikely to be due to HIV induced or sexually transmitted disease induced as you had protected sex. However you can exclude by going though HIV test to completely rule out. It can be Rheumatoid arthritis, so CBC, ESR and Rheumatoid Factor test is of help. Another common cause of joint pains is vitamin D deficiency , it is advisable to get vitamin D test.
Hope your query get answered. If further query I am ready to help.

Hello Dr XXXXXXX thank you so much for your reply. I will get the necessary tests done. My family has no history of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Is is common at this age? another symptom I experience is Itchiness in late evenings on my hands and limbs. The feeling goes away after some minutes. my joint pains also get worse as the day progresses. I feel my joints have become delicate and prone to damage.
