Question : Hello Doctor,

My baby daughter is 20 months old. This morning,I noticed that she has developed some sort of a ear infection (on the outer part of the left ear). I applied a little lacto-calamine on the affected area. I am not sure if it is an insect bite or an infection. I have attached a snapshot. Please advise on what medication needs to be given.

Thanks for asking on this platform

I have seen the image. Based on history of sudden onset and type of lesion, to me it appears to be some kind of allergy/insect bite.
Application of calamine lotion, antibiotic cream ( mupirocin/mupimet) and hydrocortisone cream over the lesion will help.
Apply all three creams, two times a day for 3-4 days. Keep the area clean with help of saline and sterile cotton.
The lesion should improve within 3-4 days but if it is increasing rapidly please consult your doctor for an opinion.
