Question: Hello Doctor,

My daughter is 5 months old, I'm seeing a small red bump on back of her head today, I believe it was not there yesterday. Is it normal? Should I take her to hospital? Please suggest.

Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Looks like a skin boil

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I have seen the attached picture .
Based on the history and description and the image it looks like a common skin boil . This is common in this age . No need to worry.
Make sure you clean the area with soap and water two times daily.
I also suggest antiseptics like fusidic ointment local application twice daily for such babies in my clinic.
However if the boils increase in size or number or if bay develops any other symptoms like fever dullness vomiting or rash take her to nearby hospital .
Wishing baby speedy recovery
Regards
Dr Arun
