Question: Hello Dr. This is about my father. My father had a leg swelling. Dr asked him to do urine test. He had mentioned some traces if albumin was found. He did mention that this could be some kidney issue. Since he was an eye specialist he didn’t suggest any medication. I am sending you all his reports. He stays in a remote place so kindly suggest what needs to be done in this case. He is having diabetic & high blood pressure.

My questions:
-     Why this issues happens? What needs to be done in my father’s case?
-     Is there anything serious?
-     What medicine he can take?
-     What needs to be done for the swollen legs?

Brief Answer:
Need to consult qualified Nephrologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query and uploading reports .

I can not make out what report no 2 and 3 are for ?

Based on the facts of your father's urine report that you have posted presence of 3 +++ sugar in urine suggests that his diabetes is uncontrolled, presence of trace of albumin suggests involvement of kidney secondary to uncontrolled diabetes what is called as Diabetic Nephropathy.

Please consult qualified Nephrologist and get following basic tests done to establish status of diabetes and kidney function .
1) Haemogram
2) Renal Function tests
3) Level of Glycocelated Hemoglobin (HBA1C)
4) Blood sugar levels Fasting and 2 hours after lunch
5) Liver function tests

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

No medicine can be prescribed based only on urine report .He needs thorough evaluation and get investigated as detailed above .

It is not a serious issue provided it is dealt with at earliest with proper assessment and medical treatment by a qualified Physician or Nephrologist

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
