Question : Hello, I am a 51yr old female recently I had 2 teeth that became loose & started to cause pain including sinus pain on the same side of my face. last week the dentist removed both teeth, x-rays show I have marked areas of bone loss in upper & lower jaw. I had a yearly dentist visit in Feb 2019 no problems were detected then. The dentist is puzzled as I have no holes in my teeth (including 2 removed last week) I also have very healthy gums. I have been taking Nortriptyline (Allegron) 300mg nightly for approx. 8-10 years (as treatment for depression). Could this be linked to my bone loss? If so what should I do? Thankyou XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Can be due to anti depressant use.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Long term use of anti depressants is associated with an increase in the bone loss. The bone loss that has already happened is difficult to fill but you can decrease the rate of further bone loss by stopping the further use of anti depressants after consulting your doctor. You can also start with regular calcium and vitamin D3 supplements after getting the blood levels checked.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
