Question: Hello! I am a 54 year old married woman and have gone through menopause a couple of years ago. I had seen a gynecologist for my last pap smear about 2 years ago and was instructed to use a estrogen cream or a Replens cream/lubricant during sex. My husband and are usually not sexually active due to the pain of intercourse. The day before yesterday we had intercourse but used the water based lubricant and today around the opening of the vagina I am very sore and red. When I urinate, and the urine runs down in the vicinity of the area it burns and is very painful. What can I now do to help with this. I cannot get into see my regular doctor for a couple of days. Is there anything I can try to relieve this?

Hi,

I understand you concerns.

Pain is due to the trauma / minor wound caused by sex with dry vagina. please use lubricants along with estrogen cream next time.

As of now take sitz bath for 2 days. Meaning Sit in a small tub of warm water with antiseptic lotion. This will reduce swelling and redness and help in Ealing quicker.

So it twice a day. You will see relief in couple of days.

Hello! Could you please tell me what kind of antiseptic lotion I could try? I have been doing the warm baths, but am still very uncomfortable? Thank you.

Hi,

Any antiseptic lotion that is sold over counter and contains chloroxynelol. Brand names like Dettol in some countries.

Additionally apply betadine ointment in the sore areas.
