Question : Hello. I am a frustrated almost 27 yr old female that noticed a pea sized lump on my upper thoracic posterior spine about a year ago now. Since then, it has more than doubled in size. I went to a dermatologist who referred me to my primary as it was not something she could handle. My primary referred me to a surgeon. Problem is, the surgeon dismissed me the moment he saw me and hardly wanted to find out what this lump is. He ordered an ultrasound which I just got my results back and I'm a little concerned but he had not explained them to me. Also, about a month ago, I noticed my lymph node on the left side of my neck was rock hard and swollen. My primary gave me antibiotics but they did not help at all. My lymph node is still swollen after a month, possibly more. I'm at my wit's end trying to find someone who cares. Just because I am 27, I keep getting doctors who seem not to care.

Brief Answer:
seems benign

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
First, I dont think that this lump is related to lymph node swelling. ENlarged lymph nodes are usually sign of respiratory infection and may persist even several months after such infections. These may also be sign of mononucleosis but you would have some other signs in that case such as fever and body pain. So I would ot be concerned about that. Only if it becomes larger in short period or painful then or blood picture is abnormal, then you should do ultrasound.

Second, this lump is probably benign subcutaneous lesion such as ateroma, lipoma or cyst. Ultrasound dont show worrying signs and it is suggestive of benign cyst. Ut can be easily removed under local anesthesia so you should consult surgeon about it. it may grow in future so would be best to remove it in smaller phase.
WIsh you good health. Regards
