Question : Hello, I am a healthy 55 year old non cigarette smoking male. On 3/14/20 I was tested positive for COVID19. My symptoms were fairly benign (dry cough, low fever, fatigue, and headache) which lasted for about 3 days and gradually improved over the next two weeks.
The dry cough has been intermittent.
I was getting a follow up CT scan yesterday (with and without contrast) to check on a mildly dilated aortic root (39mm) and my cardiologist advised me that I have the presence of %E2%80%9Cground glass in my lower right lobe%E2%80%9D but is not present anywhere else.
I will note that in 11/19 as part of an executive physical a full-body MDCT revealed %E2%80%9Cmild scarring in the medial right lower lobe, along thoracic osteophytes. No concerning pulmonary consolidation, mass, or nodule.%E2%80%9D
I do not have the films as yet, nor do I have the written radiologist report.
Candidly, this scares me. I am a fairly competitive athlete and am worried that this is a non-reversable condition or the sign of more serious trouble ahead.
I know you don%E2%80%99t have films, but is there any insight you might provide based on what I told you?
Many thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
You might be having chronic non resolving pneumonia.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
It will be of great help if films or printed reports of CT are available.
But according to your description, possibility of chronic non resolving pneumonia is more likely.
In this patient is improved symptomatically with only mild symptoms (like intermittent coughing in your case) with radiological presence of pneumonia.
So at present nothing to worry.
May I know
1. Do you have any allergies?
2. Where do you work?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
